Poly and Styro are the Styrofoam recycling Hero's Of Planet Earth. H.O.P.E. is a league of super hero's whose destiny is to save the planet from the run-away disaster of the linier economy. Just like in nature, our materials economy needs to become cyclic, where one organism's trash becomes another's treasure. Poly and Styro have built and raised "Foam Mucher" from a wee nano-bot to be their super muncher robodog designed to munch his way through the mountain of EPS the world generates to cycle it back into new products.

Foam Muncher, brain child of Poly and built by Poly and Styro chews his way through tonnes of EPS per day. And that is no mean feat. His appetite is insatiable! He can eat 500m3 per day and still be hungry!

Poly is passionate about Styro – foam – recycling that is… She hates the direction the world is going and has chosen EPS recycling as the pin point focus of her existence. Look out anyone who gets in Poly’s way.

Styro is strong, fast, handsome and not the sharpest tool in the shed. He is passionate though, and good with his hands. He put Foam Muncher together with Poly in no time flat, and leads the trio into all sorts of foam battles all over the world.

The Real Cost of Waste

General waste disposal costs have gone up by 13% year on year for over 20 years. A front lift bin now costs over $30 per cubic meter, and over $35 in some Australian cities. Polystyrene weighs nothing, with only about 6kg in 1 cubic metre. Business is paying over $5500 per tonne to dispose of Polystyrene. And the 100% recyclable material is lost for ever!

MAKING A CHANGE

Styrofoam / Polystyrene is 100% recyclable. It is part of a necessary product protection system to get products to us safely. Imagine how much embodied energy and wasted materials there would be if your LED TV arrived broken! A little bit of Polystyrene prevents this from happening, but what about its impact?
